MANILA, Philippines -- A new vending scheme will be implemented in Baclaran this coming holiday season, the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said.
MMDA Chair Francis Tolentino on Friday told vendors in Baclaran that they will undergo zoning and shifting from December 16 until January 6 next year to keep the order and prevent overcrowding in the areas surrounding the Redemptorist Church.
Under the new system, vending stalls in Baclaran will be divided into three zones.
Tolentino said zone 1 will be allotted for food vendors, zone 2 for non-garment vendors, and zone 3 for vendors of garments and accessories.
Shifting in the 350 stalls will also be implemented so that all 2,000 vendors can be accommodated, MMDA said.
See-through fences will be placed in between stalls to make sure that vendors would not stray from their designated areas.
MMDA will also issue identification cards (IDs) to legitimate vendors in the area to avoid illegal vendors. -- Report from Robert Mano, dzMM
