MANILA, Philippines – The security guard of a 7-11 store at the corner of Quezon Avenue and Scout Reyes died after being shot by two armed robbers around 5:55 a.m. Sunday.

Quezon City Police District (QCPD) chief SPO2 Rogelio Fajatin identified the victim as Reynaldo Giatao, 30 years old.

Based on the CCTV footage of the 7-11 branch, the suspects attempted to grab Giatao’s gun and shot him when the security guard refused to give up the weapon.

The robbers then took the store’s cash register, which was then unguarded as the cashier was still setting up the store’s merchandise.

Authorities are still trying to determine how much money was stolen.

The store’s other security guard was still getting dressed at the time of the incident and failed to respond.

Authorities are still trying to identify the suspects, but they reportedly resemble the suspects who robbed another convenience store last September, which resulted in the death of an American.

Meanwhile, a separate 7-11 branch in Tondo, Manila was also robbed by two armed suspects Sunday.

According to initial investigation, the suspects pointed a gun at the cashier, identified as Randy Carandang, and ordered him to open the cash register.

Police are still determining how much money the robbers were able to steal.

The suspects got away on a motorcycle with no license plate. Reports from DZMM.
