MANILA, Philippines – A Chinese couple was killed after being shot by suspected robbers in Malabon on Saturday morning, police said.

The victims were identified by Purok leader Danilo Antalasco as Mintin Ong, 70, and his wife Quency, 60.

Initial investigation showed that the two victims, owners of the White Horse Plastic Factory, were on board their vehicle in front of the factory along Dizon St. in Barangay Tenejeros when two still unidentified suspects suddenly fired at them.

Mintin was shot in the chest while Quency was shot in the head. They were rushed to the Manila Central University (MCU) hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

Police said they are looking into robbery as the motive behind the killing since the two victims were reportedly supposed to deliver about P60,000 to P70,000 worth of salaries for their employees today.

Antalasco, who lives just in front of the couple's factory, believes the ambush was planned since the Ong couple always brings their employees' salaries on a Saturday.

A closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera is installed in the area but was not working, police noted.

Authorities are still investigating the incident. -- Report from Zandro Ochona, dzMM
