MANILA, Philippines – Officials of the New Bilibid Prisons (NBP) in Muntinlupa City have decided to suspend indefinitely the regular and conjugal visits at the maximum security compound following Friday’s grenade blast.

NBP chief Supt. Ramon Reyes made the announcement Friday night.

He said they have yet to determine the identity of the inmate who lobbed the grenade.

Reyes said investigations are still ongoing.

Authorities said the explosion occurred in Building No. 11 at around 6:15 a.m., but it was reported only to police at around 10:30 a.m.

The incident injured 6 inmates, who are reportedly members of the Batang City Jail gang.

Two of the wounded inmates are being treated at the NBP hospital.

Reyes earlier said it is possible that gang war is the motive behind the explosion. -- Report from Dexter Ganibe, dzMM
