MANILA, Philippines -- A man was arrested by police Thursday for allegedly robbing and raping a woman near an MRT station in Guadalupe, Makati.

The suspect was identified as Domingo Maricosa.

The victim "Celia" (not her real name) said she was walking near the Guadalupe MRT station past 9 p.m. on Saturday when the suspect, who was hiding behind a post, suddenly grabbed her and told her to take off her pants.

Celia said she was also robbed of her cash and mobile phone.

"Wala po akong magawa. Natatakpan niya po ako, hindi mo talaga mapapansin dahil sa sobrang dilim," she said.

Senior Supt. Manuel Lucban Jr., chief of Makati police, said, "Ang modus niya maghintay sa mga poste at mangholdap. Marami na kaming natanggap na reklamo, iyon pala may kasama pang panghahalay ang holdap."

The suspect later admitted that Celia was not his first victim.

Police said suspects usually target unsuspecting commuters under the Guadalupe MRT station since the area is dark.

Commuters would have to walk about 400 meters from the jeepney terminal to reach the footbridge and bus terminal.

Authorities said they have already started guarding the area.

They have also requested the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) to install lights in the area to prevent crimes. -- Report from Maan Macapagal, ABS-CBN News
