MANILA, Philippines -- A 7-month-old baby boy was allegedly abandoned by his mother and left in the hands of a couple in Manila, police said.
Merlita Bautista and Efren Leysa said the baby's mother asked them Wednesday last week if she and her baby could stay in their house temporarily.
Bautista said, "Ang sabi niya kasi ginugulpi siya sa kanila."
She said the woman did not give any details and just said that she was from Malanday, Valenzuela.
However, the woman suddenly went missing on Sunday morning and left the baby in their house, Bautista said.
They have decided to bring the baby to a police station in Sta. Cruz.
Police said it is against the law for anyone to keep a child without undergoing the formal process of adoption.
The baby is now under the custody of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD). -- Report from Niko Baua, ABS-CBN News
