Fire hits Camp Crame building

MANILA, Philippines (UPDATE) – A fire hit one of the buildings inside Camp Crame on Tuesday morning.

Police said the affected building was the Philippine National Police's Base Police Section.

The building houses the PNP's Headquarters Support Service. It is located near the EDSA gate of Camp Crame.

The fire started at 10:58 a.m. and reached the second alarm before being declared out at around 11:20 a.m. by the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Quezon City.

Arson Investigator SFO2 Fortunato Alde said the fire started at a room in the 2nd floor of the building, where belongings of police officers were being kept.

One police officer, identified as Inspector Josephus Alburo, was injured after he tried to smash the glass window of the Base Police Section.

Police officials earlier decided to close the PNP headquarter's EDSA gate due to the incident. The incident also caused traffic to stall along EDSA.

PNP Chief Nicanor Bartolome also responded to the area to investigate the cause of the fire. -- Report from Edwin Sevidal, dzMM
