MANILA, Philippines – An employee of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) could face dismissal from service if found guilty of punching a traffic constable of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), the DILG Legal Service said on Saturday.

The DILG Legal Service on Thursday gave Alvin Vinluan, operations officer at the DILG Region IV-A, 48 hours to explain allegations that he attacked Jonard Jeramil last Monday.

Vinluan allegedly punched Jeramil in the head after the latter apprehended him for jaywalking along España Boulevard in Manila.

Vinluan also allegedly boasted of his position in DILG.

After Vinluan has given his explanation, the DILG Legal Service said it will then decide whether an administrative case, which is punishable by dismissal from office, will be filed against Vinluan.

The charges against Vinluan may also result in forfeiture of his benefits such as retirement benefits. -- Report from Edwin Sevidal, dzMM
