MANILA, Philippines – A 9-year-old boy was killed by two other children inside the Bonifacio Global City in Taguig, authorities said Friday.

The victim, “Nonoy”, was playing with a friend in a playground in 26th St. when two street children approached them to ask for money.

When Nonoy and his friend said they did not have cash, they were threatened.

Nonoy and his friend ran, but the street children eventually caught up with them at a construction site and were beaten up.

Nonoy's hands and feet were bound.

He and his friend were then pushed into a 5-foot hole filled with water, where Nonoy drowned.

It took authorities 9 hours to recover his body.

His friend, on the other hand, survived.

Barangay officials admit that there are many street children roaming inside Global City, often stealing iron bars or metal scraps from construction sites.

One of the suspects, an 11-year-old boy, has been arrested.

Since the suspect is a minor, no charges were filed and he was placed under the custody of the Social Welfare Department. -- Reports from Maan Macapagal, ABS-CBN News; ANC
