Signal no. 1 still up in Metro Manila, 6 areas

MANILA, Philippines – Storm signal number 1 remains hoisted over Metro Manila and 6 areas in Luzon due to tropical storm “Ofel”.

PAGASA said the storm has maintained its strength and was moving towards the West Philippine Sea.

Aside from Metro Manila, the following areas are under storm signal number 1:

  • Bataan
  • Zambales
  • Cavite
  • Batangas
  • Northern part of Mindoro
  • Lubang island

Storm warning signals elsewhere have been lowered.

In its 5 p.m. bulletin, PAGASA said the storm was last seen 40 kilometers west of Mamburao, Occidental Mindoro.

It was spotted carrying winds of 75 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 90 kph.

PAGASA said moderate to intense are expected within the storm’s 400-kilometer diameter.

Weather forecasters earlier said Ofel is seen to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Friday.
