MANILA, Philippines – Signal number 1 has been raised in Metro Manila due to tropical storm “Ofel”.
In its 11 p.m. weather bulletin, PAGASA said the storm was over the Visayan Sea and was moving towards the Roxas-Masbate area at a speed of 19 kilometers per hour.
Also under storm warning signal number 1 are the following areas:
- Lubang island
- Calamian group of island
- Cuyo island
- Southern part of Quezon province
- Camarines Norte
- Camarines Sur
- Rest of Negros Occidental
- Negros Oriental
- Rest of Cebu
- Northern Samar
- Dinagat island
- Siargao island
- Surigao del Norte
Storm signal number 2, meanwhile, was raised over the following areas:
- Burias and Ticao islands
- Oriental Mindoro
- Occidental Mindoro
- Northern part of Negros Occidental
- Southern Leyte
- Western and eastern Samar
- Camotes island
- Northern part of Cebu
Moderate to intense rains are expected within the storms 450-kilometer diameter.
The storm was last spotted at 40 kilometers northwest of Tabango, Leyte, packing winds of 65 kilometers per hour.
It is seen to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility either by Friday evening or early Saturday.
PAGASA earlier said an improvement in the weather is expected by Saturday.
