MANILA, Philippines – A man held his own family hostage in Manila on Monday, a police official said .

Supt. Rolly Balasabas, Manila Philippine National Police (PNP) Station 4 Commander, said Eduardo Manaloto held his wife and 2 children hostage after a heated argument with his parents in their house at the corner of España and Miguelin streets in the city’s Sampaloc district.

Balasabas said Manaloto's parents went to the Barangay Hall to report the incident. This prompted barangay officials to alert the police.

After a brief negotiation, Manaloto calmed down, and agreed to release his family. Balasabas said a knife was recovered from Manaloto.

Balasabas added the police do not intend to file a charge against Manaloto.

- report from Noel Alamar, dzMM
