MANILA, Philippines (UPDATE) – A huge fire gutted at least 100 homes in GSIS Village, Barangay Sangandaan, Quezon City Tuesday afternoon.
Two persons were reportedly injured in the fire, which started at around 2:45 p.m. and reached the fifth alarm before it was declared under control.
Authorities said firefighters had difficulty putting out the fire due to narrow passageways.
Around 200 families lost their homes in the fire. They are temporarily staying at a nearby covered court and school.
Sr. Supt. Bobby Baruelo said the fire started at the home of a certain Jane Ratuita.
Barangay chairman Jun Untalan, meanwhile, said Ratuita’s children played with matches and candles, triggering the blaze. -- Report from Robert Mano, dzMM
