MANILA, Philippines - The Commission on Elections and the University of the Philippines signed a memorandum of agreement today on voter registration and education.
The signing was attended by UP officials and Comelec Commissioners Rene Sarmiento and Lucenito Tagle.
Under the agreement, the UP will help the Comelec with voter registration and education through its various constituent units in the country.
UP Vice President for Public Affairs explained UP already had a voter registration in the Diliman and Los Banos campuses.
UP-National College of Public Administration and Governance (UP NCPAG) professor Prospero de Vera said plans for more voter registration in other campuses may be difficult because there are just a few days to go before the deadline for registration on October 31.
The university is also looking at having students research on the election landscape at the local level.
The Comelec is having an en banc session today as part of its preparations for the 2013 midterm elections.
