MANILA, Philippines – Four suspected carjackers were killed in an encounter with the police before dawn on Tuesday.
Sr. Supt. Conrado Capa, Muntinlupa Police chief, said the suspects were shot dead in an encounter inside Victoria Homes in Barangay Tunasan.
Capa said the suspects were supposed to sell a "hot car" to undercover policemen. The car was a Toyota Vios stolen from a call center agent along España Boulevard in Manila last week.
However, the suspects sensed that they were being set up, resulting in the chase and shootout.
Two of the slain suspects were identified as Ricardo Orbina and Arnel Canque, the group's alleged leader.
Police recovered type-B police uniforms, fake military IDs and several high-powered firearms from the slain suspects.
They also learned that the license plate attached to the stolen vehicle was registered to a Toyota Hilux. – reports from Francis Faulve, ABS-CBN News; Johnson Manabat and Zhander Cayabyab, dzMM
