MANILA, Philippines – A security guard was found dead in Pasig City before dawn on Monday.

Joseph Caluay, 32, was found dead with a gunshot wound in his right temple inside the guard house of a furniture store along Manuel Quezon Street in Barangay Rosario.

A stay-in worker at the store, identified as Domingo Bagalay, said he heard a gunshot at around 2 a.m. but just ignored it, thinking it came from outside.

Another store employee, Demi Nazareth, later discovered Caluay's body.

Nazareth said he initially thought that Caluay was sleeping, until he went near the guard's body and realized he was already dead.

Caluay had a cloth muzzle. A suicide note was also found beside him.

Police said they will still have to verify if Caluay indeed killed himself.

Fellow store employees said Caluay only started his job in the store last week. – report from Dexter Ganibe, dzMM
