MANILA, Philippines – Authorities are now on the lookout for the group of men responsible for attacking two news crew members of PTV-4 network in Sta. Mesa, Manila.

The victims were identified as PTV-4 reporter Bernard Tan and cameraman Dante Morada.

The attack happened at 1:30 a.m. Thursday at the corner of Valenzuela and V. Mapa streets in Sta. Mesa, Manila.

Tan was on board the network’s marked vehicle driven by Morada when around 5 to 10 men allegedly crossed the street.

The Philippine Star reported that one of the suspects hit the vehicle’s hood while crossing. Morada checked the vehicle for damages but he was immediately mauled. Tan was beaten up too when he tried to intervene.

The two managed to lock themselves up inside the vehicle but the suspects destroyed the rear windows before escaping, the Philippine Star report added.

Police and barangay tanods are monitoring the area where the attack happened in case the group returns to the place.

Meanwhile, Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim has given his directive to increase police visibility and checkpoints at night to prevent a repeat of the incident. -- With a report from Bettina Magsaysay, ABS-CBN News
