MANILA, Philippines – Some 200 employees from the main office of the Department of Science and Techonology (DOST) in Taguig City concluded today their 5-day protest against the suspension of their magna carta benefits.

The employees, who wore black shirts and carried placards bearing their sentiments, said the government must reinstate their benefits which have been suspended since January.

They are questioning why only the Magna Carta benefits of their fellow employees in DOST-PAGASA were reinstated.

The employees are hoping that with their protest, the government will finally reinstate their benefits, which consist of longevity pay, hazard pay, and SALA (subsistence allowance and laundry allowance).

They said due to the suspension of the benefits, the employees are losing at least P7,000 monthly.

During their lunch break protest, the DOST employees ate rice porridge (lugaw) to show the government their plight.

The employees said they will continue with their protests if the government does not heed their request. – report from Dexter Ganibe, dzMM
