MANILA, Philippines – The Bureau of Customs (BOC) confiscated 7 baby ball pythons found in a package that arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) on Friday.

Customs officials said the snakes were concealed in plastic bags inside a cargo shipment of toy cars from Indonesia.

Authorities said the pythons are usually sold at P11,000 each in the black market.

BOC has coordinated with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Wildlife Office for the care of the reptiles.

The package’s consignee, 33-year-old Yuki Arabia, will be investigated by authorities.

A warrant of seizure and detention has been issued by Customs for violating Republic Act 9147 or An Act Providing for the Conservation and Protection of Wildlife Resources and their Habitats. -- Report from Ricky Velasco, dzMM
