MANILA, Philippines – Police on Monday filed frustrated murder charges against a student of the Far Eastern University and 5 others for stabbing a University of Santo Tomas student inside FEU last week.
Police said they filed a lawsuit against Maria Christine Acosta, a graduating nursing student of FEU, and 5 Jane Does for the attack on UST student Joanne Lourdes Reyes.
Reyes’ mother has asked the Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim for help in locating the other suspects.
In an interview, Reyes said she remains thankful that she survived the violent attack inside campus.
“God is so good. Kasi grabe ang nangyari sobrang himala rin nabuhay pa ako,” she said.
Reyes said she was at the hallway inside the science building of FEU campus in Morayta last Tuesday when she was blocked by a group of 6 women. She said she had just watched an awarding ceremony for a film competition inside the school.
“Tinanong ako ‘Hi. Anong ginagawa mo rito?’ Paglingon ko, inisprayan ako. Di ko alam kung anong spray yun. Tapos sobrang hapdi sa balat. Sakit rin sa mata. Hirap din ako makahinga,” she said.
“The next thing I know me sumasaksak na sa kin. Unang saksak dito sa tyan. Napakapit ako sa kanya tapos meron sumasaksak sa likod ko. Napaluhod na ako,” she added.
Reyes was stabbed 5 times in the back, once on the scalp and once on the belly, which pierced her intestine.
She said she is still in shock over the attack, which happened inside the university.
“It made me think there is no more secured place,” she said. She also said she did not recognize any of her attackers.
SPO3 Genesis Aliling of the Manila Police District Station 4 investigating unit said frustrated murder charges have been filed against Acosta and the 5 others.
Police said they are investigating if the stabbing is linked to a row between warring sororities. They said several witnesses have also come forward to help identify the 5 other suspects.
