MANILA, Philippines – A member of the Manila Police District (MPD) was shot dead by one of the two riding-in-tandem suspects on Saturday morning in Manila.

Police Officer 2 Ryan Bagadiong of the MPD Station 5 died past 6 a.m. in a hospital due to multiple gunshot wounds

Bagadiong, who was detailed outside the US Embassy in Manila, was said to be on his way home when he saw a motorcycle travelling against the flow of traffic along UN Avenue at the corner of Del Pilar Street.

Witnesses said the policeman flagged down the motorcycle and ordered the suspects to get down on the ground. Bagadiong was about to search the suspects when a commotion ensued and shots were fired at the policeman.

Bagadiong was said to have called for back up before he was shot. His service firearm is missing and believed to have been stolen by the suspects. -- Report from Johnson Manabat, dzMM
