MANILA, Philippines (2nd UPDATE) – A 5.3-magnitude earthquake struck off Occidental Mindoro Thursday morning but was felt all the way to Metro Manila.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the earthquake struck 41 kilometers southwest of Mamburao at 9:55 a.m.
The following intensities were felt:
- Intensity IV - Batangas City; Pinamalayan, Oriental Mindoro; San Jose, Occidental Mindoro
- Intensity III - Pasay City
- Intesity II - Quezon City, Malabon City
- Intensity I - Tagaytay City
Phivolcs said the earthquake was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 15 kms.
The United States Geological Survey, meanwhile, measured the earthquake at magnitude 5.
Phivolcs said aftershocks are expected from the quake. No damage was reported, as of posting.
