MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Education on Friday warned colleges and universities around the country against a man claiming to be DepEd Secretary Armin Luistro.

In a statement posted on the Official Gazette, the DepEd said a man pretending to be Luistro has been asking some colleges and university, and even private businesses, for a donation of at least P10,000.

The impostor was allegedly asking for the donation money to be deposited to the account of his supposed secretary, a certain ms. Ester Avilla, at Landbank Batangas account no. 0277166445 or via Cebuana Lhuillier under Ester C. Corpuz or Jaime Jacob.

"The caller uses cellphone numbers 0926-7144527, 0926-7144543, and 0927-7110047," the DepEd said.

The DepEd is asking the public to report any similar incident of solicitation to the department.

Last December, a son of a Pasay City policeman was jailed after presenting himself as Presidential Communications Secretary Ramon "Ricky" Carandang while asking for money from Cabinet officials.
