MANILA, Philippines - The Manila government has released an order allowing parents and teachers to inspect Internet shops across the metropolis.

Internet shops are not allowed to admit minors during school hours. Some are still violating this rule however.

With the new order, officers and members of accredited Parent and Teacher associations can inspect, monitor and take pictures of the Internet shop that has violated the rule.

One a report has been submitted to the Office of the Mayor, the shop will undergo investigation. The city government has the right to shut down the shop.

Some Internet shop owners have complained of the new rule. A search warrant is needed if the city intends to inspect the premises, they said.

Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim insists, however, that these shops are “public” places.
