MANILA, Philippines (UPDATE) – Two people died after fire broke out at a residential area in Quezon City before dawn Wednesday.

The body of Alexander Espiña was the first to be found. He was trapped inside their burning house along Mauban Street in Barangay Manresa.

Alexander's mother Joanne said she felt helpless when she saw fire engulfing the second floor of their house where her son was trapped.

Joanne lamented that no one among her neighbors, who were running away from the fire with their belongings, bothered to help rescue her son.

The remains of the other fatality, 20-year-old Madelyn Solaiman, was discovered at around 11 a.m., according to Quezon City Fire Marshal Sr. Supt. Bobby Baruelo.

The fire allegedly started at the house of the Espiña family at around 2 a.m., but the cause has yet to be determined.

The blaze, which razed some 200 houses and left at least 800 families homeless, was declared out at around 5 a.m.
