MANILA, Philippines – Although they appear to be suitable for indoor use, electronic cigarettes are not allowed inside Light Rail Transit (LRT) stations and trains, an official reminded commuters on Monday.
Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) spokesperson Hernando Cabrera, in his official Twitter account, said: " For those asking, e-cigarette smoking is prohibited in all LRT1&2 trains and stations." [http://twitter.com/attycabs]
Cabrera explained that due to overcrowded conditions inside LRT trains and stations, especially during rush hours, the use of e-cigarettes may result in altercation among passengers.
"Yes it irritates kasi most passengers, resulting to altercations and disorder," Cabrera said.
The e-cigarette supposedly reduces the amount of nicotine and tar levels smokers get from real cigarettes while at the same time satisfying real cigarette cravings.
They also come in different variants that emit odorless or fragrant smoke.
