MANILA, Philippines – Former officer-in-charge of Pasay City’s social welfare and development department, Restituto Cruz, has passed away due to internal hemorrhage at the San Juan de Dios Hospital.

Cruz, a city health officer at the time of his death, slipped into a coma following a bad fall after he tried to chase robbers of a jeepney carrying him and other passengers in Malibay, Pasay last Friday.

Cruz was still conscious after the fall and was able to walk to the Pasay General Hospital, but was allegedly not attended to for 4 hours.

He was then brought to San Juan de Dios Hospital and was confined at the private hospital.

Cruz passed away after 3 days.

His remains are now at the Rizal Funeral Homes in Pasay City.

Management of the Pasay General Hospital, meanwhile, denied that they neglected to attend to Cruz, which eventually led to his death. -- Report from Gretchen Malalad, ABS-CBN News
