Worker skewered as car plunges into excavation

MANILA, Philippines – A worker was skewered with a steel bar after a car plunged into a deep excavation along Araneta Avenue in Quezon City on Tuesday evening.

Henry Jimenez, 32, was rushed to East Avenue Medical Center after a steel bar hit his side and pierced through his back. The steel bar was eventually removed in an operation.

Witnesses said a Honda City plunged into the excavation of Maynilad Water Services while Jimenez and two others were working inside it.

Another worker, 52-year-old Jimmy Lucain, was also injured.

The sedan driver and passenger have yet to be identified.
Bystanders said the two were able to get out of the vehicle and did not stay at the scene. – reports from Dennis Datu, dzMM; and Jacque Manabat, ABS-CBN News
