MANILA, Philippines - A suspected robber was killed inside a passenger jeepney in Barangay Pasong Putik, Fairview, Quezon City on Wednesday morning.

The unidentified suspect died on the spot after sustaining three gunshot wounds to the head, chest, and shoulder.

According to the Philippine National Police, the suspect declared robbery near the corner of Mindano Avenue extension and Belfast Street. He brandished a .45 caliber pistol and started getting the valuables of the passengers.

However, two operatives were also on the same jeepney ride and were able to neutralize the suspect immediately.

Quezon City Police District Director Mario dela Vega said he sees no irregularity in the police encounter.

"That is the judgement call of our policemen. If they see an immediate threat and there is no way off subduing the suspect without endangering others, then they can use force," dela Vega said.

Jeepney driver Gerry Mariano claimed he did not see what happened since he ducked upon hearing the gunshots.

"Nung nagdeklara siya ng holdup, sabi niya 'pare tabi mo.' Tapos 'yun na, nakarinig na ako ng putok. Yumuko na lang ako," Mariano said.

ABS-CBN News tried getting additional eye witness accounts but police claim other passengers of the jeepney have already gone home.

Dela Vega said they are not looking for other suspects, but are exploring the possibility that one of the passengers who left the scene right away may be an accomplice.
