MANILA, Philippines - A woman accused of maltreating her household helper reportedly experienced physical abuse from her husband.

Court records presented by Sen. Jinggoy Estrada during the Senate's investigation on domestic violence showed that Analiza Marzan filed a case of physical abuse against her husband, Reynold, in 2008.

That was the same year she allegedly started abusing their helper, Bonita Baran, whose harrowing story prompted the Senate investigation.

Mrs. Marzan admitted filing a case against her husband, but did not give details about how she was abused. The case is still pending.

"Family problem po 'yan. Hindi naman po perpekto ang pagsasama naming mag-asawa," Mrs Marzan said.

"Wala na po 'yan. Hindi ko po pinursige dahil na rin po sa mga anak namin," she added.

Mr. Marzan also denied ever hitting his wife.

However, results of a medico-legal exam on Mrs. Marzan presented during the hearing showed that she had bruises all over her body at the time she filed a case against her husband.

"She sustained many blunt injuries," said forensic expert Dr. Erwin Erfe, who interpreted the medico-legal results during the hearing.

Mrs. Marzan appealed to senators not to delve into the issue, saying it's a personal matter.
