MANILA, Philippines - The fire at the Tutuban mall in Manila entered its second day on Thursday.

The difficult task of putting out the blaze has taken a toll on some firemen.

Aside from fatigue, some firefighters also suffered injuries due to exposed nails.

The injured people include 26 firefighters from the Bureau of Fire Protection, 11 fire volunteers, and 2 civilians.

"Nakakalanghap po tayo ng usok eh. Yung usok po kasi pabigla-bigla, merong makapal, merong konti lang. Minsan po di maiwasan, so nakakalanghap po ng usok, iyun nahihirapan po silang huminga," said Inspector Levi Cerillo of the BFP Emergency Medical Service.

The Interior and Local Government Department admits that the lack of proper equipment is one of the reasons it took time to put the fire under control. - ANC
