MANILA, Philippines – Conducting its third operation in 5 days, members of the Manila Veterinary Inspection board seized 250 kilograms of double dead pork in Paco district before dawn Tuesday.

The seized items were found inside a Ford pick-up truck, allegedly from Pulilan, Bulacan, said Riz Peralta of the inspection board.

The driver of the truck managed to escape, but 18-year-old helper Richard Cruz was arrested.

Dr. Hector Dimaculangan of the inspection board said consuming tainted meat poses threats to one’s health. The chemicals being injected to the meat makes people resistant to certain antibiotics.

The inspection board warned that as the Christmas season draws near, more tainted meat will enter the market.

Authorities said they have intensified operations to curb the sale of double dead pork in local markets. – Report from Francis Faulve, ABS-CBN News
