MANILA -- Commuters were stranded as several stations of the Light RailTransit (LRT) Line 2 closed down around 6 p.m. Saturday.
In his Twitter account, LRT spokesperson Atty. Hernando Cabrera said one of LRT-2's power lines was struck by lightning during the thunderstorm that affected Metro Manila Saturday afternoon.
At the time of the incident, the only operational routes were between Cubao and Santolan stations, and vice versa.
At around 8:50 p.m., train operations from V. Mapa station to Santolan resumed, following the restoration of power supply up to V. Mapa station.
Cabrera said the Light Rail Transit Administration (LRTA) is currently in the process of procuring more lightning arresters for the LRT-2 system.
