MANILA, Philippines – Police have released the artist's sketch of the woman who kidnapped a newborn from a Quezon City hospital after she pretended to be a doctor.
The baby’s mother, Ces de los Santos, described the suspect as about 5”5’ and 35 to 40 years old.
De los Santos’s son, Sean Gabriel, was kidnapped from Sta. Teresita General Hospital just 3 days after he was born.
“Sana ibalik niya ang anak ko. Hindi hayop ang anak ko, tao ‘yun. Huwag nilang gawing hanapbuhay,” said de los Santos.
Police said there were security lapses at the hospital. Management has already replaced the hospital's security agency.
“’Yung security guard natin, dapat may log-in doon kahit pa sabihin mong doctor,” said Sr. Insp. Rowena Lambojo.
There are also cases of other babies who were kidnapped and these have yet to be resolved.
Jennifer Francisco's baby, Alex, was kidnapped December last year by a woman who offered them a free medical check-up.
"Talagang mauulit pa ‘yun kasi pinapalabas lang nila sa TV, hindi naman nila talaga tinututukan eh,” said Francisco.
Mary Jane Abes shared Francisco's sentiments.
Last April, a woman promised to lend Abes money so she could buy groceries but the woman ran off with Abes's baby Russel instead.
“Naiinis ako kasi akala ko mahahanap,” Abes said.
The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) said it understands the victims' dismay but appealed to them not to lose hope.
“Kagaya rin ng ibang kriminal na panatag, ilang beses nila inuulit, pero eventually ay mahuhuli din siya,” said Supt. Emma Libunao of the CIDG.
