MANILA - Metro Rail Transit officials are investigating another glitch in its system after a photo on social media showed an MRT-3 door was open while the train was running along Magallanes.
MRT spokesman Hernando Cabrera said the opening of the door could be due to a broken sensor. He said the train immediately stopped after the door opened and the driver immediately closed the door.
However, the door again reopened while the train was running.
"Somehow nung tumakbo ulit, bumukas ulit and the driver was forced na patakbuhin yung tren apparently kahit bukas yung pintuan, which is very wrong," he said in an ANC Headstart interview.
"It's a maintenance thing. We really have to do something...Critical yun."
He said all the passengers on the affected train were ordered to disembark at the Magallanes station and the affected coach was sent to the MRT depot for inspection.
The MRT is now running 18 trains during peak hours.
The maintenance contract for the MRT-3 expires tomorrow but government has yet to conduct the bidding for the next maintenance provider.
Cabrera said APT Global's contract must be extended every month until a new contractor is hired.
