MANILA, Philippines – A hold departure order (HDO) has been issued against a couple in Quezon City accused of abusing their former househelper.

Quezon City Judge Germano Francisco Legaspi of the Regional Trial Court Branch 77 issued the HDO on Friday against Reynold and Analiza Marzan, both facing charges of serious illegal detention filed by their ex-househelp Bonita Baran.

Baran alleged that her employer burnt her face with a flat iron and repeatedly punched her, causing her to go blind.

Baran also claimed that her employers did not allow her to leave the couple's house along Visayas Avenue.

Legapi denied the motion to lift the arrest warrant issued against the couple as well as the motion for a preliminary investigation filed by their lawyer.

The judge also junked the motion for judicial determination of probable cause because the ruling was already made when he issued the arrest warrant against the couple.
