MANILA -- An overseas Filipino worker (OFW) lost half a million pesos worth of jewelry and watches inside the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), police said on Wednesday.
"Aling Mercy" went to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to ask for help after her child lost jewelry and watches worth half a million pesos.
She added that her child's bag was still intact upon check-in, but it was already damaged, with the jewelry and watches missing, upon arrival in Dubai.
The victim tried to look for a similar watch online, and found a watch with the same serial number as the one stolen from the luggage.
The online seller was caught in an entrapment operation.
The suspect, who claimed that the item was bought from Aranque, Manila, failed to show a proper receipt for the item.
Based on the investigation, the jewelry and watches were stolen inside the airport, as the luggage was slashed after it was checked in.
The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) has expressed their willingness to cooperate in the investigation.
Airport authorities also advised travelers to declare expensive items at the Bureau of Customs (BOC) before leaving the country, or just put them inside hand-carry luggage. -- report from Zyann Ambrosio, ABS-CBN News
