MANILA - A sudden heavy downpour caused floods and heavy traffic in some areas in Metro Manila on Monday evening.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) reported gutter-deep floodwaters along Quezon Avenue, particularly in Biak na Bato and G. Araneta areas.

Tire-deep floods also slowed vehicles down on España Boulevard and EDSA-Magallanes, according to the MMDA.

The floods caused heavy traffic in EDSA - Orense and at the Quezon Avenue-Araneta underpass.

Moderate to heavy rains also poured over Central Luzon and other provinces near Metro Manila.

State weather bureau PAGASA said the downpour was brought by a localized thunderstorm.

PAGASA is also monitoring a low pressure area (LPA) 120 kilometers northeast of Guiuan, Eastern Samar.

The LPA is currently affecting the Mindoro, Marinduque, Bicol region, Visayas and Mindanao, according to PAGASA.--Report from Bettina Magsaysay, Bandila
