An overseas Filipino worker (OFW) was arrested by airport policemen for making a "bomb joke" at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), radio dzMM reported Saturday.
Chief Superintendent Atillano Morada, Aviation Security Group chief, identified the OFW as Joel Laurente, 40, of Cavite province.
Morada said airport security personnel at the NAIA Terminal 2 were checking Laurente's bag when he said he had a grenade.
The Filipino worker has a scheduled flight to London when he made the joke.
Laurente was immediately arrested for violation of Presidential Decree 1727, which declares as unlawful the malicious dissemination of false information or willful making of any threat concerning bombs, explosives or any similar device or means of destruction.
The overseas worker will face a five-year jail term if found guilty.
