Alleged 'carjack king' arrested in Caloocan

MANILA - The leader of the notorious Mac Lester Reyes carnapping group operating in Metro Manila has been arrested, the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) said on Tuesday.

QCPD director Chief Supt. Richard Albano said Mac Lester Reyes, 37, as well as his live-in partner Richell Sibug, 30, were arrested in his house in Caloocan City.

Two other suspected members of the carjacking group were also arrested.

According to Albano, last August 13, agents of the QCPD's Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (CIDU) spotted a Toyota Prado vehicle which was stolen by Reyes' group in Banaue, Quezon City.

The agents then followed the vehicle, resulting in the arrest of two members of the carnapping group, Pablito Gumasing and Alvin Ganac.

Albano said they then conducted follow-up operations against Reyes based on the information they got from the two arrested suspects.

At least 10 suspected stolen vehicles were also recovered from the garage of Reyes' house.

Police said Reyes' group targets parked vehicles and is allegedly involved in at least 12 carjack incidents in Quezon City, .
