MANILA - An elderly man crashed his car into several vehicles at the third floor of a multi-level parking building in Greenhills, San Juan City Friday afternoon before driving his car through the wall and falling on the street below.
Ortigas Shipping Centers manager Cathy Ko said the man was driving his car, a Mitsubishi Galant. while trying to back out of his parking slot when he crashed into several vehicles at around 3:30 p.m.
"He was trying to back out of his parking slot and apparently he hit a car behind him. He probably panicked and drove forward and hit another car. He was going back and forth. We are trying to determine if he hit four or five cars...before he rammed through the wall of the building and fell," Ko told ABS-CBN News Channel.
The manager said the driver is 74 years old and is said to have a pacemaker. She said the man claimed to have blacked out during the incident.
"We think he really just stepped on the gas to have that force to ram through the wall," Ko said.
She said the man suffered abrasions and was in a "state of shock" after the incident.
The manager said at least five cars were damaged at the third floor of the parking building while four other vehicles on the street were also damaged during the fall.
Ko said management decided to put tarpaulins all over the area where the car fell to protect other parked cars and pedestrians.
"Medyo malaki yung damage so we we're not sure if something might fall off," she said.
Asked if they will ask the driver for payment, she said: "Hindi ko yata kayang singilin si tatay dahil accident."
She also said traffic flow along Annapolis Street where the crash happened has been reopened.
