2 taken hostage in QC

MANILA (UPDATE) – Two people have been taken hostage by a man in Barangay Baesa, Quezon City, police said.

Chief Supt. Richard Albano, director of Quezon City Police District (QCPD), confirmed that a certain Melvin Medina took two hostages inside a house along Maximina Street in Villa Matilde.

Albano said Medina is armed with a bladed weapon.

The victims were identified as Doroteo Querubin and Marvin Caag. The two are reportedly relatives of the suspect.

Capocao said Medina was seen hurting himself with the bladed weapon. He said the suspect has not yet aired any demand since the hostage drama began.

Albano said as of posting, negotiations with the suspect were ongoing.

The negotiations are being led by QCPD Station 3 commander Supt. Ariel Capocao. Barangay officials were also helping in the negotiations. – report from Jon Ibañez, dzMM
