MANILA - Malacanang has yet to get a full report on the derailed train at the Metro Rail Transit (MRT) system on Wednesday afternoon.

In a text message to Malacanang reporters, Presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said Transport Secretary Joseph Emilio Abaya will be going to the site to get a full report.

“Sec. Abaya is on the way to the site of the MRT accident, coming from Malacanang… Sec. Abaya has instructed MRT-3 to assist the injured passengers right away while he inspects the site and gets a full report on the incident," he said.

Based on initial information Malacanang received, the derailed train initially stalled between the Magallanes and Taft stations.

Following standard operating procedures, the train needed to be pushed by an oncoming train. The two trains’ link, however, was disconnected along the way.

“This caused the derailed train to go past the Taft platform,” Lacierda said.
