MANILA - Police on Monday said the family of the baby found dead under a parked passenger jeepney along Don Ejercito Street, Barangay Tibagan in San Juan last Friday has come forward to identify the body.
The victim was identified as Geralyn Cortez, 11 months old.
The baby was identified by parents Geraldine Marata and husband, Ariel Cortez, at Quioge Funeral Homes in Pasig City.
The baby's parents said they reported their child missing at around 3:30 a.m. in front of a bank along N. Domingo Street in San Juan City last August 1, Friday.
The baby's body was found 8:30 a.m. Friday by the driver of the parked jeepney.
The baby's body has not been autopsied yet so the cause of death has not been determined.
Residents believe the child was raped.
Police are on the hunt for the suspect who was allegedly caught on video carrying the baby.
Footage from a closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera installed at a nearby house showed a young man, who was wearing a white striped shirt and denim shorts, walking and carrying the still alive baby at 3:17 a.m.
Authorities said the suspect is a vendor in the area.
