MANILA – The Philippine National Police (PNP) identified Wednesday the sports utility vehicle (SUV) driver who allegedly pointed a gun at a taxi driver following an altercation along EDSA.
The PNP identified the suspect as Karlvin Ang.
Police alleged Ang was the man seen in the video pulling out a gun and pointing it at taxi driver Glen Remetio.
However, Primex Development Corp., which owns the Mercedes Benz SUV, claimed that another employee, and not Ang, was involved in the gun-toting incident.
The Quezon City Police District said Ang is the corporate secretary of Primex Development Corp.
The video of the encounter, which was captured by an anonymous bus passenger, first showed the driver of an SUV kicking the door of a taxi.
The taxi driver then emerges wielding a knife, but the SUV driver immediately points a gun at him, forcing him to throw the weapon back into his taxi.
The SUV driver takes the knife, leaves his firearm in his SUV, and then confronts the taxi driver once more, bearing what appears to be the same bladed weapon.
After a while, the SUV speeds off, but the taxi driver chases it along the highway.
Remetio said the SUV driver got away finally after threatening him again with a gun.
Remetio said before the footage was taken, the SUV driver cut him off and broke his window.
The SUV driver is facing charges of malicious mischief, grave threats, and physical injuries, based on the testimony of the taxi driver and a video of the confrontation that went viral over the Internet.
The PNP Firearms and Explosives Office said there is no firearm registered under Ang's name. If this is true, the PNP said he may face another charge, that of illegal possession of firearms. – from a report by Atom Araullo, ABS-CBN News
