MANILA- The parents of slain international race car driver Ferdinand "Enzo" Pastor went to the Department of Justice (DOJ) on Wednesday to seek an update on the investigation being conducted by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).
After the meeting, NBI Director Virgilio Mendez spoke to reporters and assured the public that the agency is "doing its best" to zero in on Pastor's killer(s) as well as the motive behind his shooting.
Mendez, however, said there are no leads yet in the fatal shooting, and several motives are being looked into.
"Nandito yung parents, pumunta yung parents, and they also wanted to see the secretary (Justice Secretary Leila De Lima) kaya nandito po kami. Wala pa po, we're still in the [process] of the investigation and we're still looking for some leads to ultimately give us a resolution to this killing.
"Malayo pa ito," Mendez said.
He clarified that the bureau is in a "process of elimination" in so far as the motive behind Pastor's killing is concerned.
Asked if one of the angles being looked into is a love triangle, Mendez refused to comment.
No witnesses in the June 12 shooting has come forward, Mendez added.
"Hindi pa natin masasabi [exact motive] because we're not focusing on one motive alone. We're still on the process of elimination kung saan tayo tama. Mahirap talaga maghanap ng witnesses. Wala pa. But we're doing our best," Mendez said.
Asked if the NBI has a time frame to complete its probe, Mendez said that is difficult to say, for now.
"Wala nga, naghihingi nga yung pamilya but we cannot give them," he said.
