MANILA -- Hours after the Philippine National Police (PNP) identified the sports utility vehicle (SUV) driver who allegedly pointed a gun at a taxi driver along EDSA, another man claimed that he was the driver involved in the incident.
Lawyers of a certain Bill Emerson Tan claimed that it was their client who was driving the SUV involved in the traffic row. Tan is said to be the son of a shareholder of Primex Corp.
Tan's lawyers claimed that their client sustained several injuries as a result of the altercation. They added that what Tan had was a toy gun, and he flashed it as a method of self-defense after seeing the taxi driver wielding a knife.
They added that they might file charges against the taxi driver, but they are also open to a dialogue.
The PNP earlier identified the gun-toting driver as Karlvin Ang.
Police alleged Ang was the man seen in the video pulling out a gun and pointing it at taxi driver Glen Remetio.
The police also showed Remetio pictures of different suspects, and he positively identified Ang as the man who pointed a gun at him.
The video of the encounter, which was captured by an anonymous bus passenger, first showed the driver of an SUV kicking the door of a taxi.
The taxi driver then emerges wielding a knife, but the SUV driver immediately points a gun at him, forcing him to throw the weapon back into his taxi.
The SUV driver takes the knife, leaves his firearm in his SUV, and then confronts the taxi driver once more, bearing what appears to be the same bladed weapon.
After a while, the SUV speeds off, but the taxi driver chases it along the highway.
Remetio said the SUV driver got away finally after threatening him again with a gun.
Remetio said before the footage was taken, the SUV driver cut him off and broke his window.
The case is now pending before the Quezon City Prosecutor's Office. – from a report by Atom Araullo, ABS-CBN News
