MANILA – Las Piñas officials are mulling plans to also implement a bus ban similar to the one launched in Manila.

The city government is eyeing two ordinances which aim to prevent buses from plying the Alabang-Zapote Road.

The ordinance also includes monitoring how the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) grants franchises to bus operators with routes on Alabang-Zapote Road.

Las Piñas Mayor Vergel Aguilar said the plans were made in reaction to the traffic jams along Zapote caused by the bus ban in Manila.

Around 250 buses are plying Alabang-Zapote Road, the only thoroughfare to enter and exit Las Piñas.

The city government is now coordinating with bus operators to discuss the proposed ordinance.

In Manila, only buses with authentic franchises are allowed to pass through the city's roads. -- Report from Dennis Datu, dzMM
