MANILA – Protesters along Commonwealth Avenue may have a hard time getting closer to the Batasan Pambansa for today's State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Benigno Aquino III.

Radio dzMM reporter Dennis Datu said SONA protesters are facing at least seven layers of barricades starting from the Ever Gotesco area.

The road blocks include concrete barriers with barbed wires on top, and rows of container vans.

The center island separating the eastbound and westbound lanes of Commonwealth Avenue is also lined with barbed wires.

Police personnel armed with clubs have also been deployed to stop the protesters from advancing towards the Batasan Pambansa.

Fire trucks are also on standby.

The Philippine National Police earlier said as many as 10,000 anti-riot policemen will be deployed for today's event.

President Aquino will deliver his fifth SONA amid the controversy involving his administration's Disbursement Acceleration Program. The president is now facing two impeachment complaints over the measure, parts of which were declared as unconstitutional by the Supreme Court. – report from Dennis Datu, dzMM
