MANILA, Philippines – A group of commercial pilots on Tuesday denied that a man recently nabbed for selling illegal drugs is linked to them.
Elmer Peña, President of Airline Pilots Association of the Philippines (ALPAP), denied that Rioklyn Toledo is part of their group.
The Philippine Drug Enforcement Authority (PDEA) said that Toledo, reportedly a commercial pilot, was arrested in a buy-bust operation in Taguig City.
PDEA director general Undersecretary Jose Gutierrez, Jr. said Toledo, 40, was caught selling two plastic sachets of shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride) to an undercover PDEA agent at the corner of Rizal and 29th streets.
"Kilala siya ng ibang piloto pero hindi naman siya airline pilot. Sa general aviation siya nagre-report. Aside from that wala na kaming alam sa ginagawa niya,” Peña told dzMM.
"Nagtataka kami at biglang mayroong ganyan. Itong nangyaring ito ay nakakasira sa grupo ng mga piloto, although hindi siya miyembro ng ALPAP,” he added.
Peña, also the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) Assistant Director General, said he has ordered CAAP’s Office of the Flight Surgeon to conduct daily random alcohol and drug testing among pilots to assure passengers of the safety of their flights.
PDEA also reported that Toledo allegedly supplied drugs to other pilots and some foreign tourists.
“I welcome the authorities without any search warrant na pasukin kami para malaman na ang ALPAP ay hindi gumagawa ng ganyang kalokohan… Para ang public naman ay magarantiya na safe sila," he said. dzMM
